Eva Amurri shares her son's 9 month baby schedule

Now that Mateo has passed the 9-month milestone, I thought it was great timing to share another installment in his Schedule series! I’ve been so excited by how many of you have messaged me over the last 9 months about how these schedules have helped or inspired you. I wish I had had a starting off point to even look at or compare with when I was a Mom for the first time with Marlowe. Even now, it’s nice just to see how other people are doing things in the Motherhood community because, even three kids in, it gives me ideas! I think it’s great to take inspiration here and there from others, or to leave concepts entirely alone if they don’t speak to your own particular sensibilities as a Mom. Don’t forget that what works best for every family is different, and that’s ok. I had success with this schedule, and it really helps me to have something concrete to follow along with—but to each their own!

The ages of 6-9 months have always been my favorite with every baby I’ve had. I love when they start to crawl and sit up on their own, and it’s so fun to watch their personalities emerge in full force at this age. The cooing, belly laughs, clapping, intentional hugs…there just isn’t a sweeter stage, in my opinion! I always call 8 months, in particular, the “tricky” age…because babies are just so damn cute at 8 months old that they trick you into trying for another baby! LOL. Well not me now, but you get the idea hahaha. The only drawback at this age can be that it becomes a bit challenging with sleep. Teething can be SO hard, and really disrupt a baby’s schedule. Check out this post for all my best tips for a teething baby!

Let me know if you have any questions about the schedule in the comments below, and I’ll do my best to answer!

7:00 am

Wake up time! Curtains Opened. 4-5 oz. of formula in a bottle. (I use HIPP Hungry Infant formula!)

7:30 am

Breakfast! Baby oatmeal mixed with fruit puree.

9:00 am

Nap (Sleep sack & Sound machine on). He goes into the crib sleepy, but awake. No rocking to sleep.*

*If he wakes up/fusses a bit after 45 mins to 1 hour, I wait to see if he will settle before going in to get him. I try not to feed him before his next bottle time even if he wakes up early.

11:00 am

Bottle of formula (4oz)

11:45 am

Lunch (Examples: 2-3 portions of frozen baby food warmed up, 2 pre-made pouches of veggie /protein blend, or 1 pouch with baby oatmeal added to it). I also offer him water from a straw cup during this meal.

2:00 pm

Nap (Sleep sack & Sound machine on). He goes into the crib sleepy, but awake. No rocking to sleep.*

*I try not to feed him before his next bottle time even if he wakes up early.

3:45 pm

Bottle of formula (4-5 oz)

4:45 pm

Dinner (Examples: 2-3 portions of frozen baby food warmed up, 2 pre-made pouches of veggie /protein blend, or 1 pouch with baby oatmeal added to it). I also offer him water from a straw cup during this meal.

6:00 pm

Bathtime!

6:30 pm

Bottle & Bed! 7oz of formula, sleep sack, and sound machine on. If he falls asleep while eating, I make sure to wake him slightly before putting him in the crib so he settles himself on his own in the crib. Thought I start this process around 6:30, he is normally actually asleep in bed by 6:45 or 7 pm.

First of all Mateo is a “tricky” baby on his own from day one, I have a 5 year old and I have forgotten how heavenly sweet babies are so watching him grow really made me reconsider about having a second ?.I would love it if you decide to share some more information about Mateo’s schedule about the hours that he is awake and also how you juggle your own obligations and the other two kids’ schedules with his.I mean do you take him with you when you drop off/ pick up kids from school, which are his favorite toys, what he loves to “investigate” around the house (drawers ? closets?) how he interacts with other people. What part of his schedule do you handle personally, do you have someone to care for him full time while you work, how you handle the endless laundry and cleaning, tidying and cooking plus helping the other kids with their homeworks and I only say this because we moms tend to feel guilty when we mess with seemingly “perfect” schedules and because I would really love to find out ways or ideas of better time management.

    Hi Eva!
Happy to say that my baby girl was born (5 weeks early) on Mateo’s birthday too! It’s fun to see we’ve been on the same journey. Wondering what your veggie/protein mix consists of. Do you make it yourself? Trying to incorporate more protein in my daughter’s diet, but unsure of what to give her!

    Thanks for sharing!

    • It depends! I sometimes bake chicken to add to the veggies, but other times I do black beans and sweet potatoes. Check out this post with some of my favorites from years ago! I still make them!
