It’s officially the year that Ian and I are getting married! It’s wild how quickly this last year went. When we got engaged last February, it felt like planning a wedding for the following summer was just SO far away. Now, we’re getting so close and those butterflies are starting up again! We have all the specifics in place for the wedding now, and as we get closer, it’s just about curating the details. Now that we’re getting closer, I thought it would be fun to share a little update on what I’m preparing and organizing as the wedding date approaches.
I’ll reiterate that I am NOT using a wedding planner. I’ve been putting all of this together, and while it has been very hectic and stressful at times, it has also been really fun to design every aspect of the wedding myself. I do have such a strong viewpoint now at this point in my life, and figuring out how to make this small wedding extra meaningful for us and the kids has been the most fun part for me. And the style has been extra fun, too! In a few weeks, I’ll be doing my first wedding dress fitting. I can’t wait to put my dress on again, and to start making it perfect for the big day. I’m also going with a couple of girlfriends to find wedding shoes! I’m going for a short heel, but I haven’t been able to find anything I love. Plus, we’re going to be getting married outside on the grass. I have to make sure I pick something that won’t sink into the lawn and make it hard for me to walk! The other style pieces I’m trying to find for me are a Rehearsal Dinner dress, and an outfit for our brunch party the day after the wedding. Let me know if you guys have any ideas about great designers I should check out for those!
Otherwise, the style pieces for the wedding are all set. I’m SO excited about Ian’s and the boys’ suits, which are by Suit Shop. I chose this brand because they’re really beautifully made and size-inclusive, and not crazy expensive! I can’t wait to show you guys what we’re scheming up for their wedding weekend LEWKS. There is literally nothing cuter than a little boy in a suit, I’ll tell you that. Marlowe will be wearing a simple and beautiful long ivory dress. She’ll be getting her dress tailored at the same appointment when I’ll be altering mine. I really am looking forward to having that memory together.
Ian and I also had the chance to do our wedding tasting with our caterer, and we got to officially lock in our wedding menu! The food is going to be absolutely delicious at this wedding, which was definitely a priority for both of us when we envisioned our perfect day. I’m so excited to start printing up menus and other reception paper goods. I’ve also been chatting with a couple of vendors about creating custom tabletop items for the wedding to make the whole thing extra special. It’s been so fun to curate an experience for a small group of people as opposed to a large one. It feels like everything can be much more bespoke, and I’ve been having a great time with it.
Meanwhile, I’m still perfecting my wedding hair and makeup! I’ve decided to do my own glam, so I’ve been on the hunt for the best foundation and other products that will hold up all day in the June heat. I’m going to begin doing hair and makeup tests pretty soon, so let me know if you guys would be interested in following along with that process.
Lastly, the process is starting soon with our Officiant to construct our wedding ceremony. Our ceremony is such a priority for Ian and I, and we want to make sure we have the perfect way of incorporating the kids into our ceremony as well. Our officiant is really skilled at crafting unique ceremonies that are super special, and that speak to the couple and their values. She also has some beautiful ideas for making the kids really central in our ceremony. Part of our process with our Officiant includes pre-marital meetings and sessions akin to counseling that help us focus on our values and goals for our marriage together. I’m really looking forward to the process with her because I feel like it will be the perfect grounding element to balance out the wedding stress as we get closer!
I know I shared a lot of the special things I’ve picked up for the wedding, as well as our wedding plans, but let me know if there is anything wedding-related that you’d like to see a blog post about!

So exciting! I got married outside in June in Virginia at the sunniest/hottest part of the day and I have oily/combo skin and wore Lisa Eldridge foundation and it held up great!
For table design/ gifts on table, consider photos of all 5 of you in beautiful glass frames. Glass frames w/metal trim; brass or chrome depending on your look. Maybe a few vases of flowers on table w/pretty glass votives maybe even floating candles? Everything sits on greens, native to area of wedding…Congrats for an amazing w/e!
My daughter got married outdoors and we found a stunning wedge sandal by Jimmy Choo in a gorgeous ivory. It was the perfect shoe on grass. So say I do in Jimmy Choo!
Omg I think I may have ended up getting her exact shoe!
Eva, for rehearsal dinner dresses I recommend Milly dresses .
