The Entryway Reveal

Eva Amurri Martino stands in the doorway of her newly renovated Connecticut home

The entryway of our new home is one of the areas where we made the most changes! While it always had historical charm, Kyle and I didn’t feel that the home had the type of grand entrance it deserved.  We wanted to make it really memorable, beautiful, and to blend the feeling of old and new.  We decided to build a wrap around porch on the front of the home, and from there changed the color of the door as well as the lighting, and hardware! Prudence had a great idea for the light grey, high gloss color of the door, which I wouldn’t have ever thought of but I LOVE.  We added brass hardware from Ring’s End to make the door feel elegant and modern.  Once inside, the unusual hand chair used as an entry table adds some funk to the space, while the  centuries old floor boards got a facelift with some whitewash.  The bannister got treated with high gloss, and the stairs got the coolest runner!

I just love the first impression our entryway makes now, which I think really sets the tone for the design concept of the house.  Watch the video below for more insights from Prudence and I about this room!

Love how you honored the historic elements to your home, especially keeping the original front door. Adding the amazing high gloss finish gave it that modern edge.
You and Prudence are the perfect duo!! Such a cool home, high fives to you and Prudence.

    • Thanks so much Monica! We absolutely love the charm that comes with a historic home, but we also wanted to make it our own by mixing old and new. Prudence and I have had such a blast! Cant wait to show more…

  3. Love the redesign! And the idea of a big porch out front. Your home reveal is so beautiful this far! I can’t wait to see the rest!

I have a question about the floors. Are you finding them easy to keep clean. The white wash is lovely, but my mind immediately turns to keeping it clean! Same with the runner. Possibly a future post? Haha

Eva, I absolutely love your style and following your blog. I look forward to all the reveals about your lovely home, and have gotten some great ideas. I just retired (see, older people follow you as well!) and am slowly redoing my home one room at a time. I love how bright and light you make everything, so I am inspired to do the same. I even found my brand new everyday dishes through your site. I ordered a full set of Caskata Blue Arbor and love them. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your home and hearing about your wonderful family.
