We had some space on the landing of the second floor of our house, and at first, I didn’t know what to do with it. It’s right next to the Guest Bedroom, and at the bottom of the stairs to the third floor. It became kind of a catch-all No-Man’s-Land for boxes and bags over the summer as we unpacked and settled into our house. And by the time Fall rolled around, I had just about had it with the laziness of that corner. It needed a job, and it needed one quickly!
I remembered the sweet little study nook at the top of the stairs in our last, historic home. It had actually been one of the oldest parts of the house, with original floorboards, natch! I wanted to create a little memory of that space by creating a similar, little cozy reading corner in this house. I already had a beautiful custom setée to use, but it took me a long time to find a bookshelf that I loved enough to pair with it. I wanted the bookshelf to not only be functional but to look unique and stylish as well. I also wanted to open up the space by putting a mirror above the sitting area.
While it took me a moment to figure out what I wanted for this space, I absolutely love how this little corner turned out. It proves that you can make something out of absolutely nothing and that no dead space in a house has to stay that way!
I’m putting all my design sources below, but let me know if you have any additional questions!
