Eva Amurri shares her Maine Packing List

It’s almost time for our annual family trip to Maine! My family has had a house in Bar Harbor for decades–I grew up vacationing there to visit my maternal grandfather–and we make a point of visiting every summer. Summer in Maine is one of my MOST favorite things. If you haven’t been to Maine in the summer months, I highly recommend checking it out. I want to explore even more of Maine, but a good place to start is checking out my Bar Harbor recaps: 2018, 2017, 2016: Part One, and Part Two. This year is extra special because it will be Mateo’s first time at our house there! We didn’t go last summer because of COVID. It will also be Ian’s first trip there with us. We are all so excited to introduce him to our favorite things about the town, as well as to make some fun memories in the house altogether. I’m extra excited to get Ian up on a paddleboard! Our house is right on a lake, and we usually paddleboard every morning when the water is glassy and gorgeous. At 6’5″ I’m sure the paddleboard will take some getting used to (LOL) but I am looking forward to some paddleboarding as a group.

Today I thought I’d share my Maine packing list. Summer in Maine can be a little misleading because there are pretty chilly days, and rain can sometimes pop up unexpectedly. It’s super important to pack layers, and to pack lots of great outdoor clothing because we do a lot of outside activities! Packing for this trip is kind of tricky, however, because while we want to be comfy for outdoor elements, I also want to feel stylish for the nice evenings and afternoons we enjoy in town and going to dinner. I also don’t like to overpack, since we drive part of the way to our house. I’m giving you a sense of what I pack below. Then I pack the kids the equivalent of what I pack for myself. We have a washer/dryer at our house so I don’t need toooo many things for the week. Let me know if you have any questions.

I’m getting so excited about our trip!

My Maine Packing List...

Dudley Stephens Hendrie Hoodie in Neon Yellow

I’m obsessed with this neon Dudley Stephens fleece hoodie! It’s perfect to throw on for those chilly mornings and evenings, and the color is bright and cheerful and goes with everything. I know there are lots of questions about DS sizing, and I take a Small in their fleeces!

Dudley Stephens Kids Windabout Pullover in Neon Orange

I got the kids these coordinating DS fleeces, orange for the boys, and yellow for Marlowe to match mine. I always size up a little in DS for the kids, so I can roll the sleeves and hopefully get a couple of years out of them!

Mother THE HUSTLER ANKLE FRAY in Shaken, Not Stirred

Mother jeans are so comfy and flattering, and this pair of high rise with a lighter wash is perfect for Maine. I’ll pair them with nice tops for evening and Tees and tanks during the day.

Gap 100% Organic Cotton Vintage T-Shirt

I have a whole roundup blog post about my favorite T-Shirts, but I will definitely be packing a couple of these organic cotton vintage cut tees. They’re affordable and so soft.

Gap Popover Dress

I just picked up this camel popover dress as a versatile option for dressing up or down. I’m packing a simple belt to wear with it for evening!

J.Crew Cotton-linen seaside short in stripe

$44.99 (On Sale!)

I saw these shorts on sale and had to snap them up! I love the light and dark blue stripes.

J.Crew Dreamy cotton pajama set in stripe

Maine mornings and evenings can be pretty chilly, and so I always make sure to bring a few long sleeve pajama sets. This stripe is so nautical and perfect for the vibe.

J.Crew Puff-sleeve cotton poplin shirtdress

This little white cotton shirtdress is so perfect for dinner out with Ian at my favorite Bar Harbor haunts!

J.Crew Tie-waist camp pant

I’m definitely bringing my Camp Pants for exploring! These are super comfy and flattering.

Madewell The Jean Jacket in Pinter Wash

I’ve had this Madewell jacket for YEARS, and honestly, it just gets better and better over time. Definitely packing it for Maine!

Madewell Medford Top in Textured Gingham

I’m packing this pretty gingham top to dress up or town during our trip.

Summersalt The Long Torso Sidestroke in Sea Urchin

This long torso one piece is one of the two bathing suits I’m bringing to Maine. I like to bring swimsuits that can double as outfits if I throw on a nice pair of shorts or pants over them!

Summersalt The Long Torso Ruffle Backflip in Seaweed & Seaglass

This bathing suit is also made for my long torso and feels like a bodysuit when I throw a pair of pants on over it.

On Running® Cloud Sneakers

I recently got these awesome running shoes for all our outdoor activities in Maine!

Madewell The Julie Espadrille Sandal

This espadrille sandal is my “dress-up shoe” while we’re there. No heels for me on this trip!

Madewell Indio Sunglasses

$39.99 (On Sale!)

I’ve had these sunnies for years and will definitely be taking them with us!

Madewell Lucie Elbow-Sleeve Smocked Midi Dress in Sunflower Field

This dress is awesome for throwing on over my bathing suit, or dressing up for dinner. I love the fine floral print!

J.Crew Tie-back cable-knit crewneck sweater

A cable knit sweater is a Maine must-have, and this one is super pretty with the tie back! Makes it more special.

White + Warren Essential Cashmere Mini Trapeze

I’m obsessed with this White + Warren trapeze cardigan! It’s so versatile, comes in 6 colors, and is the softest cashmere. Such a great investment piece if you don’t have one already.

Girlfriend Collective Pocket Leggings

Let’s talk activewear! I Love my Girlfriend Collective leggings and will be bringing them to Maine for our hikes.

Sundry Fleece Sweatpants

These sweats are so so cozy and I’m definitely packing them for the trip.

Beyond Yoga Spacedye Lift Your Spirits Bra

I swear by this sports bra. It’s flattering and supportive!

ANLUKE Water Shoes

The beaches in Maine are quite rocky, and I like to wear water shoes so I can have fun and not worry about hurting the soles of my feet. These are so sleek and comfy. They feel like socks but have a hard bottom.

Nike Women's Gymnastics Shoes

I always pack these white Nike’s as a comfy daytime option for walking around town and exploring.

Venture Pal 40L Lightweight Packable Travel Hiking Backpack

I bought this sports pak for our outdoor adventures! I love that it is bright pink, I hope I get to wear it with my neon yellow fleece! LOL

Maine is somewhere I have always wanted to go. Would love a post about bed and breakfasts or great rentals there for vacation.

    • Hi Amanda! Unfortunately I don’t have great intel about that, since we only go to our family home. But I’m sure there are rentals in the area!
