Eva Amurri shares her family wellness strategies going into this fall season.

If you’ve ever tried to keep a family of five healthy at the same time, you know it sometimes feels like an Olympic sport you’ll never get a medal for. Between three kids with three very busy schedules, seasonal bugs that tend to rip through the house like wildfire, and the general chaos of daily life, staying on top of everyone’s wellness can feel like a full-time job on top of the full-time job I’m already doing. But after 12-plus years of motherhood (and a lot of trial and error), I’ve finally landed on a set of strategies that actually work for us, and I’m so excited to share them with you today! Consider this my family wellness playbook, hard-won and constantly evolving.

BOOST IMMUNITY

Let’s start with the foundation: boosting immunity before things go sideways. I used to be reactive about health, waiting until someone had the sniffles or a fever to spring into action. But I’ve learned that the real magic is in prevention. For us, that looks like prioritizing balanced meals with lots of fruit and veggies, making sure everyone is getting enough sleep (easier said than done with after-school activities galore PLUS homework), and keeping a solid lineup of vitamins and supplements on hand. We’re big on vitamin D, elderberry, and probiotics in our house. I also swear by getting the kids (and myself!) outside as much as possible every single day. Fresh air and movement do more for immune systems than any miracle product ever could.

Kids Real Fruit Multivitamin Gummies

$24.99

My kids love the taste of this daily multi, and can all agree on that which feels like a win. Plus, not too much sugar

Alkalize Detoxifying Greens Powder

$60

I swear by this alkalizing greens powder for keeping my own immunity boosted. It made such a difference for me last winter.

Organic Kids & Adults Vitamin D3 + K2 Gummies

$24.99

Vitamin D is my special hack for keeping my kids’ immunity high during the winter months! This one also supports mood and bone health

Liposomal Vitamin C Packets - Immune + Collagen Support

$61.99

Whenever my kids are under the weather, I immediately take a pack of this liposomal vitamin C. It works for me!

Sambucus Kids Gummy - For Immune Support

$16.99

Elderberry is my secret weapon in the colder months for my kids, and if there’s anything going around I make sure to give them these every day!

STOCK THE WELLNESS ARSENAL

Here’s what nobody tells you when you first become a parent: knowing what to do when your kids aren’t feeling their best is just as important as prevention. Over the years, I’ve built up what I lovingly call my “wellness arsenal,” a collection of go-to remedies, machines, and routines that help us get through sick days without me completely losing my mind. Old Wives’ Tales that actually work, a humidifier for every bedside, honey, lemon, and ginger tea for sore throats– and a carefully curated medicine cabinet that I make sure is stocked! I’ve also learned the art of trusting my gut as a mom. I know my kids’ bodies and behaviors, and I’ve gotten much better at reading the early signs that something is off, which means we can usually get ahead of things before they spiral.

2.0 Bedside Humidifier (with Filter)

$159

Whenever any of us are sick, I make sure to put one of these humidifiers bedside. They are also the easiest to clean of all the brands I’ve owned!

Fresh White Onion

$1.69

When my kids are coughing nonstop, I rely on an Old Wives Tale that works every time: a white onion! I peel and quarter an onion, and put it beside their bed in a bowl. It really helps reduce those incessant coughs so well!

Kid's Throat Soothing Lollipop

$9.99

These lollipops are a nice soothing treat when my kids are feeling crummy

Manuka Honey MGO 400+ / UMF 13+

$45.99

Chamomile tea with this Manuka honey is how I soothe sore throats and bad colds.

Welch's Concord Grape Juice

$5.49

Whenever somebody close to us throws up and shows the first sign of a stomach bug, the rest of us swear by this Old Wive’s trick that actually works: Mix 2 Tablespoons of Apple Cider vinegar into 8oz of Welch’s grape juice, and drink a few times a day. This has always warded off the stomach bug for us if we act quickly!

FIND FLEXIBILITY

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that wellness isn’t one-size-fits-all, even within the same family. What works for one of my kids doesn’t always work for another. Even down to the over-the-counter medicine flavors they prefer! One thrives on a strict sleep schedule while another is naturally a night owl, but will also sleep in. One will happily take any medicine I give them, while another one cannot even take an oral antibiotic without vomiting everywhere. Part of my evolution as a mom has been letting go of the idea that there’s one perfect system, and instead getting curious about what each kid (and even what I ) actually need. That mindset has been a game changer. And the truth is, consistency with the basics wins every time. Regular handwashing does more to prevent illness than any supplement ever will, and that is a hill I will die on! No pun intended.

Kid's Propolis Immune Support Throat Spray

$13.99

Only my two big kids will use this, but I find it helps SO much to nip colds in the bud

Nasal Spray Max

$14.99

This is the best for congestion!

Pedialyte Electrolyte Solution Freezer Pops

$4.99

Anyone who has had a tummy bug rip through the house knows that these are clutch when it’s impossible to keep food or water down!

NeilMed NasaFlo Neti Pot

$15.39

My older two kids (and Ian and I) swear by this nasal irrigation system when we’re congested. It really helps clear us out and is great for seasonal allergies, too!

At the end of the day, my biggest takeaway from over a decade of keeping this crew healthy is that it’s a practice, not a destination. Some weeks we’re crushing it with home-cooked meals and early bedtimes, and other weeks we’re surviving on takeout and crossing our fingers that the stomach bug going around school skips our house. Both versions are valid. What matters is that we keep showing up, adjusting, and meeting life where it brings us. I’m so grateful for everything motherhood has taught me about wellness, and I hope sharing what works for our family gives you a few ideas (or at least makes you feel less alone in the chaos of it all). Here’s to health and happiness, from my family to yours.
