Eva Amurri shares her kids' dressy edit.

Let me just say it: my kids love getting dressed up. Not a reluctant, “do I have to wear the itchy thing” response, but the real, twirl-in-the-mirror, ask-if-there’s-a-tie-for-that kind of love. Major especially has turned it into an art form. Give that kid a tailored suit and a reason to wear it, and he’s practically giddy, strutting around like he’s about to close a business deal or accept an award. It’s honestly one of my favorite things to watch, and it reminds me that getting dressed can be pure joy when you’re doing it for the fun of it.

This time of year, my brain automatically shifts into planning mode. Somewhere between the first pumpkin and the last Fun Size candy wrapper, I start wrapping my mind around what everyone will be wearing for the season ahead: holiday dinners, school concerts, seasonal parties, and the inevitable last-minute “oh, it’s tonight?” invitation. I’ve learned the hard way that scrambling the morning of is nobody’s idea of festive. So now I try to get ahead of it, and let me tell you, future me is always grateful!

My secret is having a few great outfits already set aside that can be mixed and matched. A good blazer works with trousers for a concert and over a sweater for Christmas Eve. A special dress can go from a holiday party to a family photo with nothing more than a swap of tights or shoes. When the core pieces are versatile, you’re not building a whole new look for every event, you’re just remixing what already works. It’s a capsule wardrobe, but make it adorable. Nobody ever turned their nose up at a pint sized suit, I’ll promise you that!

Over the years, I’ve found some truly wonderful brands that get it right when it comes to dressier pieces for kids. We’re talking real quality, thoughtful details, and fabrics that hold up to actual children (who will, without fail, find the one chocolate fountain in a five-mile radius). These are the pieces that feel special without feeling stuffy, and many of them are good enough to pass down. And can we talk about these photos for a second? Why do they look like a Zara catalogue?! I’m cackling at the play food. Nothing says “high fashion editorial” like a perfectly styled child seriously contemplating some wooden sushi.

Check out a few of my favorite finds below, and make sure to head over to my full Dressy Kids Boutique to see them all. Whether you’ve got fancy holiday plans on the calendar, or just a little one who loves an excuse to dress the part, there’s something in there to make those dressier moments feel extra special. Happy shopping, and happy season of celebrating
