Eva Amurri shares her closet

My little sanctuary finally got the glow-up she deserved! When we first moved into our new home, almost two years ago, my closet was the last thing on my list to decorate. I was, and am, so grateful to have a great walk-in space for my clothes, shoes, and accessories, but I wasn’t prioritizing its design at all. It was enough to have it functional, and relatively organized. Then, about 4 months ago, I organized and decorated Ian’s closet for him as a little surprise. I did it for under $200 and spent about 4 hours total on the organization, decor, and sorting. He LOVED it, and I watched him totally change how he dressed himself and interacted with the space immediately. It inspired him! It made me realize that I was long overdue for a closet overhaul myself…and my wheels started turning for how to design it!

I decided to go for a moody and feminine vibe, with mixed metal accents, hints of florals, and a really luxe feel. I ended up painting the entire space a greige color, and adding a really gorgeous flushmount on a dimmer so I could control the vibes better. I added a pretty rug with a bit of shimmer, and one of my Eva benches from my collection for BenchMade Modern! These benches are over-the-top fantastic, you guys. If I do say so myself! They’re custom-made right here in the USA, with over 200 fabrics to pick from that stand up to your big, beautiful, chaotic life. My kids LOVE visiting me in my closet now and lounging all over my Eva Bench, and I’m never anxious about it because the performance fabric works overtime. It makes me so happy how the greenish-blue fabric I chose picks up on those same colors in the rug and ties the space together.

I went back and forth on the idea of having a center island console in this room, and ultimately I love how it makes the space feel oddly bigger than before AND adds to the boutique feeling of the room. It’s nice to have someplace to rest my watches, perfume, and some flowers– and it cuts down on the closet floor becoming a dumping ground for laundry or outfit castoffs.

The most important aspect of this space, however, was figuring out how to make everything SO organized that I felt like I was shopping my closet every single time I got dressed. Enter: House Of Prim! Meredith is a fellow local Mama, with three kids, who happened to get divorced right around the time that I did. If that won’t bring two people together, I don’t know what will! After connecting years ago, I would always marvel at the beautiful organizational work that her company would do for their clients across Fairfield County. It’s always so elevated and style-forward. I knew I had to pull her in for this closet overhaul! House Of Prim recently debuted their in-house collection of acrylic closet organizers, and organizing bags– and I’m obsessed with how well they make everything come together. I chose the light lavender color, and adore it! It is somehow both feminine and playful, and really brings out the color of the rug.

Meredith knows her organization, and for this project, she brought in a ton of products from The Container Store. I may be dating myself, but I remember being in high school and the BIG container store opening on 6th Avenue in NYC. I would walk there on the weekends, and just drool over everything for hours. As a Type A, everything having a place, and being organized in a style-forward way, is my actual DREAM. I’ve been a Container Store STAN for decades! I have to say I was so surprised and blown away by how many options they have now than the last time I organized a closet! I would say the shoe organizers were the biggest Wow Factor moment for me. I had initially told Meredith that I didn’t think I needed them (I had shoe racks in there before), but thank goodness she pushed back because everything looks 1000% better with the shoes in their little homes. And it makes finding shoes so much easier! It’s also helped me edit down my shoe collection and get a true sense of what I’m wearing and not wearing. 10/10 recommend.

Another huge glow-up was the jewelry trays from The Container Store. I knew I needed to do something better with my jewelry, but I really didn’t know where to start. Meredith always loves using their stackable trays, and now I can totally see why. Their use of compartments is so smart, and the velvety fabric feels super luxe and keeps the pieces from slipping around. I can see what I have SO much better now, and accessorizing with things I already have feels like shopping!

It’s amazing what making a handful of impactful decisions can do for a space that you spend so much time in each day. I can’t believe I ever felt that my closet was an afterthought! I have so much more fun getting ready every day now, and having my first “step” of my day feel this pulled-together truly sets the tone for my daily experience. It is, of course, a huge luxury to get a room properly organized and labeled, but I really feel that it pays dividends and trickles down to all other areas of your life. I adore this closet space now! It really feels like my little sanctuary where I can breathe deeply during my crazy days!

I’m putting all my design details below, as well as the organizational products– but let me know if you have any other questions that aren’t answered and I will do my best to help!
