Welcome to Happily Eva After On The Road!  Or should I say Aloha Kakou? (I’m so Hawaiian now hehehe.) I thought Maui would be the perfect place to showcase my Monthly Beauty Picks for August, since they are all perfect for keeping you looking great in the heat.  One of them is even the answer to my most-asked-about personal beauty secret: MASCARA!  Here are my three beauty faves for when the sun is scorching and you need to support your end-of-summer-sass.  And may I also mention that I’ve included application tutorials of myself using these products ON A BEACH.  If I can do it, you can do it!

Clinique Lash Power Mascara:  This is it! This is the mascara you have been wondering about. I love it because the brush is long and skinny, so it really separates and elongates my lashes (I’m never a fan of a bushy, fat mascara brush).  The formula is unique because it coats the lashes with tube-like fibers that slide off easily with warm water.  I love that I don’t have to rub at my eyes with makeup remover AND that I never get racoon eyes if I accidentally get my mascara wet.  NO color transfer.  Did I mention how great that is for beach and pool life?!

Benefit High Beam:  I have been using this product for ten years.  No joke.  I always get asked about it when I’m wearing it, although people usually think the effect has something to do with the foundation I use.  Wrong! It’s this little powerhouse.  Best part? This little bottle lasts me up to six months.  I apply in a V-shape from my brow bone to my cheekbone and then blend well with my ring finger.  The effect is bananas.  Most days I just use this, brow pencil, and mascara and I’m good to go.

Weleda Rosemary Conditioning Hair Oil:  As somebody who colors my hair, deep conditioning is a constant struggle.  I love extreme hair products, but I’m never crazy about the amount of chemicals that are inevitably in them.  For important events, I bring out The Big Guns, but for day-to-day I prefer something natural.  I love this hair oil because it smells great and does double duty.  I use a pea sized amount on my towel dried hair as a grooming aid/leave in conditioner after showering to protect my hair from the dryer.  I also use this as a shine treatment for dry ends after my hair is styled. When using on dry hair make sure to only use one or two drops– a little goes a long way!

I’ve found 2 different kinds of the mascara you recommend. Do you use the ‘long-wearing’ or the ‘feathering’ version?

      Hi Melissa,
I end up picking up different brands of eyeliner pencil when mine runs out– I almost never use the same one! The only consistent is that I use a light brown or dark blonde color. Right now I’m using a waterproof one by Clinique and liking it a lot!

  4. Eva, I LOVE “BENEFIT” make up. I use the ‘high beam’ same way you do; and their mascara is WONDERFUL. I love Clinique too, but for me, “Benefit” mascara seems to be hypoallergic . My eyes are super sensitive so I have to watch ‘top’ eyeliner and use “Physicians formula” pencil liner and Benefit for my face. I’ve not found such a great make up in softening my older face as it. Aging, I’ve found that ‘frosted’ lipstick or bottom lining eyes, makes me look ridiculous and OLDER. Less is more; and while your site is geared for younger women, feel I must post for any and all age groups, if that’s ok w/ you!!! I like the ‘brightening’ effect that the high beam can create even under the eyebrow, a bit, then shadow applied in crease, to the base of lashes, then liner and mascara. Make up does WONDERS… for good photos and angles, lighting are paramount for us older girls : ) XOXO PS.. Your hair is so beautiful.. all the time. Lovely. I adore the highlights with your brown hair, such a great great look and so natural and soft looking.
