Eva Amurri shares her daughter, Marlowe's, style edit

Recently Marlowe has entered into “The Age” of being super particular and opinionated about her look. For the first six or so years of her life, I lived in bliss, dressing my living doll however I pleased. She was impartial and I was living out my fantasy of putting cute outfits together. I should have known the day would come. To be honest, I’m surprised it didn’t come sooner! LOL. Now, Lowie has lots of opinions on what is cool or not cool (“Bikinis are so LAME, Mom!” “I like these boots because I could run around town all day in them and do whatever I wanted and everyone could see I’m tough.”) For the record, Tulle in any of its forms is a definite NOPE.

On one hand, it’s a challenge because I can never buy her anything without asking her if she likes it. If she doesn’t, it becomes quite literally a battle to get her to wear it, and not one I’d like to pick. The positive side is that it’s been really fun and interesting to see her own personal style emerge and to hear why she likes or doesn’t like certain things. She definitely veers more towards a tomboy style (comfort is key) but with feminine touches thrown in. (Dresses are cool, as are rainbow, pink, and sequins). Confusingly, skirts, in general, are a no-go, as are thick material sweatpants. Why? “They look ridiculous on people, Mom.” Who knew?!

I actually get asked a TON to share the clothes I buy for the kiddos, and particularly Marlowe. Today, I thought it would be a great opportunity to share a little Style Edit, curated by Marlowe herself. Take a step into her wardrobe! Let me know your faves.

Marlowe's Style Edit

Kids' Patchwork Plaid Dress

$34

I love this dress! It’s so comfortable and I like the pattern. My Mom tells me it’s the same as a dress on My So-Called Life but I don’t know what that is.

2976 Chelsea Boot

$65

These boots are great because I can wear them dressy or normal. They make me look and feel really tough.

Girls printed legging

$24.50

Jcrew Leggings are my favorite, and I LOVE leggings the most. I wear leggings most days. I have these in all the colors pretty much. I just got the plaid and the corduroy kind.

Girls Faux Leather Leggings

$58

My mom got me these as dressy leggings because I love wearing leggings! They’re really stretchy and comfortable and look like leather.

SOREL Youth Whitney II Short Lace Boot — Waterproof Winter Boots

$74.95

My Mom just got me these snow boots, and I love them because they’re sooo cozy inside, and feel like I could stomp through the snow in them really well.

Kids' Long Sleeve Tiered Shirtdress

$36

I picked this dress for Thanksgiving! I like the colors and it’s warm.

Kids' Stripe Smocked Waist Top

$48

I don’t like that many dressy tops but I love this one! I wore it to go see Hamilton with my family.

1901 Kids' Faux Wrap Ribbed Sweater

$15.60

I love this top too! It’s so comfy. I have it in red and grey.

Kids Windabout Pullover in Neon Yellow

$68

Dudley Stephens makes my favorite fleeces. When I was two me and my mom collaborated with them on their neon pink color, and we launched the neon pink turtlenecks. We still have them and love them!

Athleta Girl High Rise Powervita Chit Chat Tight

$49

When I have gym class or play sports, I like to wear the workout stuff from Athleta Girl. It’s warm and stretchy.

Athleta Girl RetroActive Full Zip

$65

This is my favorite sweatshirt. It comes in other colors too!

Kids Ribbed T-Shirt

$15

I like wearing T-shirts to school and these ones are comfortable and aren’t boring. I like the frill on the sleeve!

Nike Kids Flex Runner

$40

These are the sneakers I wear almost every day. They slip on because I don’t know how to tie my shoelaces yet!

Little Girl's & Girl's You Are My Sunshine Twirl Tie-Dye Dress

$80

My Mom’s friend makes these super cool tie-dye clothes. I love the dresses because the bottom is so twirly and the tie-dye is nice colors.

Kiera Mary Jane Ballet Flat

$29.95

I HATE dress-up shoes normally, but my Mom found these, and I really like them. They’re more my style.

Kids' Mock Neck Long Sleeve Top

$19.20

Leopards and cheetahs are my favorite animals. This shirt makes me feel like a leopard!

Kids' High Waist Ponte Pants

$29

I always fight with my Mom about jeans because she loves them and I DO NOT. She found these black pants and I really like them because they’re a compromise. They feel like leggings but look like jeans.

This is totally adorable. I have only boy grandchildren and they’re a riot but would love a girl. Marlowe’s own words made me smile a lot!❤️

My daughters have both been picky dressers starting around age 2. I agree I can’t shop without getting their approval first. It’s awful because even when they pick out clothes and agree to wear them, they frequently change their mind after I’ve already washed it and put it in their drawer. My 4 year old says she won’t be wearing pants or tights. We live in Texas but I think she’s still going to be pretty cold over the next couple months.

I’ve been following you since Lowie was 1 or 2 and I can’t believe I’m reading her style edit. If it makes sense it’s something I couldn’t wait reading, without knowing LOL. I hope she’ll keep guest writing on the blog – she’s the coolest kid ever (and she got it from her mama).

You are fortunate to have a strong-will daughter who knows her mind and what she likes. Is she like her Mama?

Society wants us to fit into a mold of pink or blue but that ain’t real life. The great thing is we all change as we grow. Never stop growing.
