Today I thought I’d share the party favor’s from Marlowe’s First Birthday Party.  Putting together these little goodie bags was one of my favorite parts of planning the day, and it brought me back to my own childhood! My Mom and I used to have so much fun choosing little things to go in the party favor bags, and then writing all the children’s names on the outside.  In retrospect, I can’t believe my Mom had the time for all of that detail!

For Marlowe’s birthday party, I was stressed enough just getting the party together let alone trying to figure out separate toys for girls and boys, etc.  So, my criteria was simple: cute little age-appropriate bags that were unisex, bright, fun, and somehow evoked the party in a personal way.  Because Marlowe’s party had a musical element, I wanted to include an instrument.  I found these cute (and LOUD) maracas by the Oriental Trading Company.  While I was ordering them, I also ordered the mini bubbles.  “Bubbas” are one of Marlowe’s favorite things! (Cute nostalgic side note:  My Mom used to get the Oriental Trading Company catalog a couple of months in advance of our birthdays and we would sit with her after dinner and circle the things we wanted to order for our birthday party favor bags.  I have vivid memories of circling the entire magazine. Ha! P.s. – This post is in no way sponsored by The Oriental Trading Company, we just love it ok bye. LOL) The finger puppet monsters, which are my favorite part, came about in a hilarious way.  I had gotten a few at The Paper Source as part of a birthday present for one of Marlowe’s BFF’s and totally fell in love with them myself.  When I was putting together her party favor bags, I knew I wanted to include them!  And last but not least: Stickers.  Because my child and every other child on this planet is obsessed with STICKERSSSS.  Or as Marlowe calls them, “Eh! Eh! EHHHH!” (This needs a little work). I got these assorted animal and fish ones for hella cheap at Party City.
Then, I found some clear bags and an adorable polka dot cotton ribbon to tie them up (Paper Source for the win again), and the bags were finished!  They turned out really adorable, and I loved knowing that each bag could be enjoyed by a little boy or little girl.  I can’t wait to plan the party favors for the big 2!!!

So cute! My parents were the same way, they threw these insanely time consuming (of course I only realized this as an adult too) parties for us but they swear they loved it. Also big big yes to Oriental Trading Catalogues. So fun as a child. Looks like it was a great party.
