1st Birthday Party Bonanza

The good news is that I have lots of friends and family with babies around my daughter’s age.  The other good news (bad news) is that this so dictates that we are smack dab in the middle of “One Year Old Birthday Party Season”.  You know, those parties with a somehow-elevated amount of pressure, with party-goers who just mainly roll around in their own drool, steal things, and bite each other.

I also always tear up when the cake comes out and the parents help the baby blow out the candles.  Blame the hormones. Of course I am 100% having a birthday party for our daughter when she turns One in a couple of months, so allow me to reassure you that in no way am I anti-one-year-old-birthday-parties.   Let me also reassure you that I’ll be serving booze.  The real rub is that with about 23,345,401 One Year Old birthday parties to go to (Ok, ten. Ten parties), I start losing my gift-giving inspiration.  You can’t give everyone the same thing, but it’s difficult to find something great and memorable for every child on the list.  I also like things that are more naturally crafted (if possible) and feel well made and durable.  I have two tips:

  1. Get it online.  Buy it in the store you can drink a glass of wine in, aka Your Living Room.
  2. Use my cheat sheet! I been there done that, girl.  See below for my favorite birthday presents for a One Year Old.

Have your own faves?  Let me know in the comments section!

  3. I actually do give the same gift at every one year old birthday party I go to. Once my nephew was born a few years back and we had his first birthday to celebrate I opted to get him one of those cute boxes of Barnum & Bailey animal crackers along with a big large balloon. My rationale: does this baby really NEED anything.. No he didn’t. What I did want to get for him though was a guaranteed smile & cute photo op, both a success! At one year old balloons are very entertaining and the animal crackers are a welcome treat most often approved by parents.
