Lately I’ve been craving a Kid-centric DIY project that is easy, cost-effective, and packs a style punch.  This Butterfly Mobile does just that! I love the pretty, ethereal quality it gives a child’s room– and the materials are so cost-effective you truly won’t believe it.  In fact, most of the things I used to make this mobile ARE TOTALLY FREE!

…What if I told you that this mobile is made from a branch I found in my backyard, and a handful of paint chips from the hardware store?  Yes, paint chips!  This project would be perfect for a budget-friendly nursery, or as an eye-catching piece for an older child’s room.  Make this as a Baby Shower gift for next-to-nothing dollars! I love the ombré blush Butterflies, but you can even play around with the stamp or the paint chip colors to make something more abstract (dots or triangles!) or tonal (black and white!)

Directions

Begin by painting your branch.  Make sure the branch is not at all damp before you paint it, and allow 12-24 hours to dry.  It may need a few coats to achieve an opaque finish.  Next, stamp out your shapes! For each shape on the “line”, you will need two cut outs– one for the front and one for the back.  Keep this in mind when you are stamping! If your stamp loses steam or sharpness, try stamping a few times on a piece of aluminum foil before continuing.  Now glue your shapes on the lines of string like little sandwiches, with the string in the middle! Press firmly to set the glue.  Allow fifteen minutes to dry.  Tie the string around your branch however you’d like! I varied the lengths of string to add a little dimension.  Hang and enjoy!!
