The Martino Family is embarking on a much anticipated (and much needed!) vacation.  As a couple that travels often, but rarely together, Kyle and I decided that we needed to take a week together this summer as a family, someplace beautiful and easy, where we could celebrate our whirlwind year since becoming a Trio.

We Honeymooned on Maui in November 2011 (yikes, wasn’t that yesterday?) and so we thought it would be sweet to bring our baby girl back to the island to create even more beautiful memories.  I just adore Hawaii and its special energy that seems to sink in to your pores and relax you on the deepest level.  Marlowe has spent very little time at the beach so far but LOVES the water, so I’m looking forward to watching her dig in the sand, splash in the waves, and maybe even take a few first steps!  I love the laid-back vibe of the island, and have committed to packing light.  That said, there are few things that I definitely wouldn’t vacation in Hawaii without.  Below I’ve detailed the elements of my quintessential Hawaiian Packing List.  Stay tuned for Happily Eva After on the road!

  • White Panama Hat:  There is something so classic and effortless about this hat.  It’s perfect for throwing over beach-mussed hair to feel a little more pulled together at lunch al fresco.
  • Flutter Top:  This look is easy, but refined.  A dressed up version of a classic tank that can transition for morning to evening with the right accessories.
  • The Perfect Lipstick:  You know me and lipstick.  I like mine super pigmented and sassy, with a velvety finish.  Any shade will do as long as it’s bright, bright, BRIGHT!  This cherry looks sensational with a tan.
  • The Cool Tshirt:  Tucked in to cutoffs or thrown over a bikini, this tshirt should be super soft and have such a strong style voice that you don’t even need accessories.  I love this one and its perforated design concept that reminds me of constellations.
  • Showstopping Evening Maxi Dress:  I love a floor-length dinner moment.  Keep it casual with spaghetti straps and a mod bright floral print.
  • Ikat:  I adore this long column skirt and its easy-breezy wrap and gather design.  The pattern feels luxurious but the style feels casual, which all feels quintessentially Hawaiian!
  • Graphic Bikini:  Go bold with a modern, printed bikini.  I can’t get enough of pineapple print, and the stark white background makes it fresh and tan-happy.
  • Distressed Denim Cutoffs:  This item is a no-brainer.  Denim cutoffs may be the only article of clothing that actually looks better after a day of being dragged around the beach.  Pair this with a stark white top, and you’re set for a Selfie photo shoot in tropical paradise.
  • Daytime Stripes:  One daytime sightseeing dress is a must, and crisp nautical stripes will never steer you wrong.  There is something sexy but also daytime appropriate about this dress, which is great for some Mommy + Daddy alone time.  (Thanks, naps!)
  • Slide Sandal:  How annoying is it to spend five minutes buckling gladiator sandals? When you have a toddler on your hip, hair in your face, keys in your mouth, juice box all over your hands, and three bags to carry, this is not even an option.  Thankfully slide sandals are back in a major way, and this leather option is super chic.
  • Easy Espadrille: Espadrilles are such an incredible day-to-night shoe.  I plan to wear mine to grab coffee in the morning, as well as under my evening maxi dress.
  • Tinted Aviators:  It’s like Top Gun, but so femme! What’s not to like?  I am obsessed with this lilac version, which I will be rocking all over Maui.  Just try to stop me.
  • Canvas Beach Tote:  The only bag you’ll need is this large and sturdy one to hold your sunscreen, book you won’t read, phone, wallet, and the 23,456,679 baby items that are necessary for a few short hours on the sand.  And it better look good because it will be in every picture you take!

  1. Oh my.. ! Friend of mine, lived in HI, at Naval base, so I had free board and no worries about ‘rent.’ lol. I SO OVER PACKED. Dress up gaberdine pants, plateforms, long sleeved top departing plane. One long summer dress I DID wear (this was ’77); way too many long pants. I wound up living in one loose tank top and shorts, thong sandals, the humidity curled my hair up too much so I tied a ‘babushka’ around my head. Wore one pc suit *had 3 kids by then* .. (marriage was on the rocks at that point, so farmed my kids out to parents in SF) and headed for islands for ten days to sort out my feelings w/ best friend, I adored Hi, I loved it’s romantic trade winds, sunsets, friendly warm people, and the 2 toned ocean in blue and turquoise near Diamond Head. Toured island, and drank a lot of overly sugared alcoholic drinks, got bloated from heat and booze. but it went away once on mainland. I’d LOVE to go to Hi, for Christmas. Ahhh would I ever… I can’t think of a better place I dream about going to every holiday season to escape the commercialism and the ‘winter’ in california, guess U can tell I AM SPOILED and a true native cali girl. xo
