Such a beautiful, and bittersweet, event happened in my life recently: I got to host the baby shower for Brianna (my former personal assistant) and her sweet baby boy! Brianna was with me for almost four years, during such a formative time for Happily Eva After. I watched her marry the love of her life, navigate her Wife Era, adjust to living in a new town, and then the process of growing her family. All throughout it, she has become like a member of our family, and like a younger sister to me (I maintain that I’m still too young to be like a second mom… LOLZ). She was such a dedicated, trustworthy, kind, and principled member of my team, and I’ll always be grateful for the years she spent at HEA. It was the most exciting news ever when she told me she was welcoming a little boy, and also so sad for both of us as we started to unpack the change that this would bring to our work relationship! I know this next incredible chapter of motherhood will be Brianna’s best one yet. I’m so proud of her for knowing the right path for her family, and sticking to that.
It was so important to me to throw Brianna a special little baby shower for her close friends here in CT, and celebrate the end of an era! It was so fun to plan a shower for a baby boy, and design it in a way that felt perfect for the gender but also soft enough for a mama-to-be. I settled on a Denim & Toile concept that felt so cute for a Connecticut-based shower! It was also a nice nod to the delicate beauty that can exist alongside some rough-and-tumble (says a Boy Mom who KNOWS…).
I was hosting in a fairly small space, and so I wanted to make sure that the details were really on point for every place setting to maximize the theme. I made the flower arrangements myself, with hydrangeas, roses, and thistle. I spruced up the tables with linen runners, as well as blue-and-white toile napkins. We set out a little favor (guest soaps in cute baby shapes!), as well as Words of Encouragement cards, with a pen that guests could also take home. I got a beautiful bone-inlay box to house the Words of Encouragement for Bri after the shower was over. Guests could take their photo at a cute balloon backdrop, created by Pop Studio, with sweet toile bows and denim pockets.
Our guests enjoyed a sit-down, three-course brunch, bubbles bar, and passed hors d’oeuvres, while they mingled and caught up. I was so honored to say a few words about what Brianna means to me, and the importance of support as a community while she transitions into this next beautiful chapter. Then, I was so surprised and touched by a hostess gift Bri got me: a necklace featuring the birth month flowers of our family. Such a special keepsake! The day was really meaningful and fun, and I was so happy to have my own daughter by my side as my fellow hostess. It’s surreal to think that my first baby shower was with HER in my belly! It was a reminder of how fast time flies, and how important it is to really cherish these milestones and memories.
We can’t wait for Baby Boy!
