I have a major soft spot for “the local spot”, if you know what I mean. The non-chain, Mom & Pop (or oftentimes Hipster & Life Partner) establishments that make a city what it is. They’re disappearing, and so I want to highlight my favorite storefronts that keep me Loving Local. First up, the cutest (and tiniest!) one of them all: Red Window Coffee.
This place popped up in my hood about six months ago, and when they were building it we all thought it was going to be a valet stand. That’s how tiny it is. But thankfully it turned out to be a delicious and homegrown coffee stand worthy of a trek. I also love the decor: everything looks like it’s been made from packing crates, including the cute little tables where patrons sit and read the paper. Is “Cozy Industrial” a design term? It’s that. The coffee is stellar, they have really great pastries, and even cold-pressed Clover juice! Overall, though, when I go here I feel like I’m contributing to something cool. And there’s no harm in that.
