I’ve decided to add a new monthly feature to Happily Eva After. As a Mom, I’ve found that the best thing I can do for my wardrobe is to have a set of really strong investment pieces that I can pair with other less expensive things to make a lot of different easy & pulled together looks. Money doesn’t grow on trees, people! My girlfriends and I have a rule that we don’t buy a pricier item while out shopping unless we can imagine enough things it can go with in our wardrobe to make three separate “looks”. And there you have it, my monthly feature “3 Ways”– featuring a great investment piece styled…you guessed it, three different ways. This month I found this absolutely stunning and glam cabernet velvet, pleated skirt by Maje! The fabric is so thick and luxe, and the skirt even has pockets. Such a cute feature. It runs steep, but not too steep, at under $250! Check out how I styled it below.
Dressed Up Holiday
Alice + Olivia Jacket (similar) // L’Agence Top (similar) // Maje Skirt // Walter Steiger Heels (similar) // Phillips House Bracelet // Vintage Earrings
Date Night Dinner
J. Crew Sweater // Maje Skirt // Tory Burch Shoes (similar) // Armani Lipstick
Weekend Brunch
Zara Blazer (similar) // Gap Flannel // Maje Skirt // Indigo Rd Booties
Love this new feature! Such a great way to think about statement & investment pieces. You’re awesome and this skirt is stunning!
Thanks, Heather!

I agree that there are a few wardrobe staples that are worth splurging on, but my goodness everything you listed is so expensive! I’m a teacher and a $675 pair of shoes and a $10,500(!!!) bracelet are just never going to happen for the average American woman. Sure these are great outfit ideas and I can see how they’re meant to inspire, but I would be more excited to see more obtainable items added to the mix. ❤?
Hi Kendra,
Some of the items are kind of expensive! And some of them are really inexpensive! Remember that this story is all about mixing with what you already have. Expensive special jewelry like from a wedding present or special occasion are great to mix in with new outfit pieces when you get them. If you are in to the less expensive options, make sure to check out my “5 Under $50” Posts that are up every Tuesday featuring a different theme!
Thanks for reading!
