My Los Angeles Packing List

We go to Los Angeles this coming Monday and I couldn’t be more relieved.  I need some warm weather, STAT. Last winter was really tough here in the Northeast, and after our fourth Nor’Easter Kyle and I looked at each other and vowed to escape a bit during our next go-round.  The first winter escape we planned was back to Los Angeles! We’ve been really missing LA since we moved from there three years ago– and our kids love it there just as much as we do! Not to mention the fact that three of my sisters and one of my brothers currently lives there full time.  I’m excited to get some family time in, some fun in the sun, and to run to a few work meetings natch!  We decided to rent a house this time, which I think will be really convenient with the kids and balancing work and vacay for Kyle and I.  Today I thought I would share my Los Angeles packing list, as well as some plans we have for our trip!

As for my suitcase, I’ll be filling it with lots of my recent purchases for Spring.  I’ve been craving a colorful, boho and sporty vibe, and I definitely want to make sure I’m taking full advantage of the surf and sun.  I always feel like I can have a bit more fun with my style in LA as opposed to Connecticut– so it will be nice to mix up some unexpected looks.  I also want to be sure I’m covered for all the fun we have planned!

Every time we visit LA we ALWAYS go to Disneyland.  It’s a family favorite, and each year that the kids get older it becomes more and more fun! I follow all of the IG handles that photograph delicious Disneyland food and fun events– and so I feel like I’ve been staying in the know even from across the country!  We plan on having a beach day or two, and visiting friends in Manhattan Beach as well– which is the cutest town with great shopping and restaurants.  Kyle’s birthday is Tuesday, and we will definitely go out with friends in Venice.  I am also planning a fun Girls’ Night Out with my besties!

Another must is lunch in Koreatown.  I have a Korean girlfriend in LA who knows all the best places and she always orders for me and we feast! I plan on taking Marlowe with us this year to check out Koreatown and try some of the food I love so much.  I hope to bring the kids to the Getty Center if the weather holds out, since it’s such a beautiful way to see art and also get some outdoor time in.  And lastly, it would not be a trip to LA without an epic hike! I leave it to my friends to recommend kid friendly ones, but I know it will be a great activity to do together.

Well, that’s a lot to pack in to just over a week of time– but we love Los Angeles so much that we try to hit all our faves whenever we go back.  I think a piece of our hearts will always be there, no matter how deeply our roots in Connecticut grow.  Stay tuned for pics from our trip!

I’m so jealous you’re escaping this blah New England weather! Things in neighboring RI are just as bleak! My brother just moved to LA for grad school and I’ve been dying to visit so I plan to take notes on all your recommendations when I plan my own trip. Plus I’m so excited for the teaser in your newsletter about learning more about your family and siblings! Can’t wait and have so much fun! Soak up all that sun for us!

I love it! This sounds like the perfect LA trip. I so appreciate the tips on how to make LA kid friendly because its not the first place you’d think to have a kid in tow.
We just went to Disneyland last week and got all our tips and tricks from Magic Kingdom Mamas. My favorite tip from them was go to Toon Town first and see the cute welcome/opening hour dances some of the characters do. And Matterhorn was finally open!

Definitely check out the Noah’s Arc exhibit/play area at the Skirball! You can reserve time in advance on website (typically only need to reserve if on a holiday – walk in passes are usually available day of).
