Marlowe loves two things for sure:  Balloons (“Ball! Baaaaaaall!”) and Spiders (“Piyer”).  Clearly, Halloween couldn’t be a better holiday for her! I decided to make some super easy and spooky tag-along spider balloons for her to play with.

MATERIALS (MAKES 1 SPIDER):

  • Two black balloons
  • 6 lengths of crepe paper, 6 inches long each
  • double sided tape
  • 1 set stick on eyes
  • 1 white index card
  • 1 straw with “bendy head”

DIRECTIONS:
Inflate both balloons, with one significantly smaller to act as the spider head.  Tie off each balloon individually, then tie the two together by the ends of the knots to make a Spider body. Place the eyes on the Spider head, and cut out two fangs out of the white index card.  Stick the fangs on using double sided tape.  Then, stick the crepe paper legs on to the spider body.  Next, loop the “bendy” part of the straw over the “neck” of the spider, and pinch against the body of the straw, taping in place.  Enjoy!
WARNING:  If your child is inclined to bite things, please be careful of popping the balloon and ingesting.  This may not be the Halloween accessory for your child!
