Eva Amurri Martino takes a bubble bath with her two babies and Baby Dove soap

Many thanks to Baby Dove for sending me their new line to try, and for sponsoring this post! As always, the thoughts and opinions expressed below are entirely my own.

We all know that age-old expression: “Soft as a baby’s bottom!” And it really is true– when babies are first born, their skin is unlike anything you’ve ever seen or felt.  So perfect, so blemish free, so soft and plumped by water from the womb.  But then, they inevitably are exposed to the harsh realities of the world around them and some babies’ skin can really change! Both of my kids had baby acne, little rashes, and flaking skin as infants.  I learned quickly that “baby soft” skin is something that is important to maintain– and not just a given! Bathing our kids can strip their skin of essential moisture it needs.  Major in particular has extremely sensitive skin.  Bibs brushing the back of his neck, or even some tags in clothes can make him get a rash or redness.  I’ve been so careful with it for the last six months, and I’ll admit that it’s been kind of an uphill battle.

But I just found an incredible product I love! Dove has always been a brand synonymous with mild cleansing, moisture, and positive messaging.  The Dove beauty bar is a cult classic! I personally love their body washes as well. Maybe best of all, Dove celebrates what makes every body unique and beautiful– promoting comfort and care for people of all shapes, sizes, colors, and creeds.  Well, just in time for my little one, Dove has finally launched Baby Dove! The line is so luxurious and amazing– I use it on me and my kids! Baby Dove is the only baby bath line to go beyond mildness and replenish essential moisture and nutrients in baby’s skin that can be lost while bathing.  Their “Sensitive Moisture” range is so perfect for my family. All Baby Dove products are dermatologist and pediatrician tested– and hypoallergenic for all skin types. The cleansers are also pH-neutral and tear-free– which makes them tantrum-proof also.  Haha! I love taking baths with my kids, and I always use Baby Dove to clean them tip to toe. We splash and play in the bath together while suds-ing up, and it’s such a special time for me to connect with them in a playful way. I really think we all come out of it a lot more relaxed– just in time for bed!

After bath time, I moisturize both kids with the Sensitive Moisture body lotion, from their faces all the way down to the bottoms of their feet.  I try to work a little body massage in there too, for some extra relaxation and pampering.  Major’s feet are so ticklish and he always laughs when I rub the lotion in to his little tootsies.  I tend to get dry skin really easily, and this lotion has been a lifesaver for me as well!

Post-bath is when Marlowe and Major LOVE snuggling with each other.  It’s so sweet to watch them kiss, hug, and love on each other with their wet, combed hair, and clean, soft skin.  It’s like the fantasy version of what I thought parenthood would be like…for those two minutes at the end of the day.  In my fantasy, I think this extended to the day and night– and involved zero tantrums, no ear infections or tummy bugs or teething, and 12 hours a night of sleep.  I’ll take the two minutes, though! Just saying. LOL.  My point is:  we all know parenthood is hard.  But sometimes we can find these little sweet and cozy moments that recharge our batteries and make that next wave a bit easier to ride.  Do you love bath time with your kids? Let me know in the Comments below!

Aside from your posts being informational, you are so lucky to have such beautiful images captured of your family. Make sure you have them printed in case we ever lose the interwebs 😉

So sweet! I love taking baths with my 8month old son. My husband and I take turns, usually he does the baths since I stay home with the baby all day. It’s a special time for them to bond. My son has sensitive skin too. Mild eczema. I use California Baby Eczema products on him or Aveeno. Dove sentive bar soap I’ve used for years on myself. My favorite;)

Hi! CUTEST pictures. Your kids are just so adorable it hurts.

A question about the Dove Baby products: are they more safely formulated than other Dove products? Dove as a brand does pretty badly on the EWG Skin Deep database, with most products rating a 4 or higher in terms of toxicity and carcinogenic qualities. (I try not to use anything higher than a 2.) A lot of their products contain really nasty stuff like parabens and butane.

One of the things I love about following you is that you’re into clean and safe beauty and household products, so I’m a little surprised to see you featuring Dove. Do you know if this new line is safer?

      Hi DMB,

I looked it up and, unfortunately, Dove Baby is just as toxic as Dove. Would not recommend if you are concerned about toxins and carcinogens. But that doesn’t surprise me given that Dove is a mainstream industrial brand. Try for a high-quality, organic line or, better yet, just use a goat milk bar soap, shea or cocoa butter, and oils (coconut, almond) for baby. Simple, natural, and close to the earth is best.

      Good luck!

I just found these a few weeks ago, a long time Dove body wash gal myself, I had been using Dove on my toddler’s bum when he’d get a rash, so I was excited to try the baby line. My babies are just the same getting in to the bath and out, they are so sweet and cuddly! When I was pregnant I started taking baths with my toddler because it was just easier and I’ve continued with the baby now too since she can’t really sit in the bath with her brother yet anyhow and I have to admit I really love it. I still use California Calendula wash for everyone’s hair but the Dove wash and lotion have been pretty good, love the bubbles the wash makes in the tub. My daughter also flares up with rashes on her face and is highly sensitive, had terrible baby acne too.

Thanks for sharing! My 6 year old son has KP since infancy. His skin has lots of bumps and is extremely sensitive. I’ll definitely give this line a try.
By the way, your instamessage the other day about how hard motherhood is was the therapy I needed that day. It was a particularly tough day. Thanks Thanks Thanks

I absolutely love baby dove. I work for babies r us so you can imagine I’ve tried them all and this is our forever soap for sure. Smells great and they’re so soft and scrumptious after a bath. The bar soap is so easy to chase your child in the bath with too lol

This is great! I didn’t realize Dove released baby products! I have super sensitive skin and a ton of allergies and Dove is pretty much all I can use. I bet these products would be great for me to try.
